Description

This 3 part series is designed as musical training to lead you to a deeper understanding of music, harmonium playing, and creative expression within the context of mantra music. In each module you will develop your ability to hear music and learn practical music theory (western) as it applies to your harmonium playing. This training is for the head, the heart, and the hand as we explore music from an intellectual, emotional / spiritual, and practical perspective. The intention is to provide you with the tools musicians develop to be able to appreciate and create music on a more profound level.

Classes take place live on Zoom in a fun, interactive learning environment where students are invited to participate in discussion and connect with each other. This class is not only educational but also provides an opportunity to build community and make connections with others.

3 private, 30-minute coaching sessions with Seth are included in this course, to be scheduled on your own time. The sessions must take place before the course is over, and after it has begun.

Module 1 - Foundations in Music Theory for Harmonium

In this first module of our 3 part series, we’ll lay the groundwork for a deeper study of the harmonium and music theory, in the context of devotional music and how the essential principles of melody, harmony, and rhythm apply to keyboard instruments, while gaining more harmonium playing skills. Module 2 - Deeper Listening for Harmonium and Voice

This second module builds on the foundational skills you learned in module 1 and develops your ability to hear music in a more deep and refined way through ear training and listening exercises, enabling you to find notes on the harmonium by ear and how to transpose music into different keys. Module 3 - Creating Your Song: Chant Writing for Harmonium

You’ll take your understanding of music theory and harmonium playing techniques to the next level and learn how to write your own music by taking a closer look at how melodies are composed, how chords are used to support a melody line, and how to create your own melodies and chord accompaniment.
