Description

In this course you will develop your ability to hear music in a more deep and refined way through ear training and listening exercises within the context of devotional music, primarily kirtan. Building on an understanding of scales and chords, we will study intervals (the space between notes), learn how to find notes on the harmonium by listening to recordings, and how to transpose music into different keys.

To participate, you need to either have completed module 1 of this series or already be familiar with western note names and have a basic understanding of playing and constructing a major scale.

We will cover: identifying different notes by ear, becoming familiar with the intervals between notes, training your voice to sing different intervals, and transcribing a melody from a recording, transposing a piece of music from one key to another.

You will be given homework assignments each week and will be encouraged to spend time study and practicing in between classes.

Classes take place live on Zoom in a fun, interactive learning environment where students are invited to participate in discussion and connect with each other. This class is not only educational but also provides an opportunity to build community and make connections with others.

One private, 30-minute coaching session with Seth is included in this course, to be scheduled on your own time. The session must take place before the course is over, and after it has begun.
