Chant Writing for Harmonium (Online): The Complete Harmonium Player

REGISTER HERE

Description

In this course (the final module of the Complete Harmonium player series) you will take your understanding of music theory to the next level: writing your own music, in the context of devotional music, primarily kirtan. We will study how melodies are composed, how chords are used to support a melody line, and how to create our own melodies and chord accompaniment. Our learning will culminate in a final presentation where you write your own melody with words of your choice and add harmonium chordal accompaniment.

To participate, you need to either have completed modules 1 and 2 of this series or already be familiar with western note names, and have a basic understanding of majors scales and major and minor chords.

We will cover: how melodies are created, how melody and harmony go together, how text and music align, how to create your own melody and accompanying chords with words.

You will be given homework assignments each week and will be encouraged to spend time studying and practicing in between classes.

Classes take place live on Zoom in a fun, interactive learning environment where students are invited to participate in discussion and connect with each other. This class is not only education but also provides an opportunity to build community and make connections with others.

One private, 30-minute coaching session with Seth is included in this course, to be scheduled on your own time. The session must take place before the course is over, and after it has begun.
