In the second meeting of our harmonium meetup group, we reviewed the “Govinda Jaya Jaya” chant from week 1, learned the Prabhupad and Manipuri Maha Mantra melodies, discussed rhythm and speed in kirtan, and what to do when we feel fear while singing.

Intro to Harmonium & Govinda Jaya Jaya

In this Intro to Harmonium class, Seth takes us through a brief overview of the basics of harmonium playing, including the mechanics of the instrument, note naming on the keyboard using western note names, and an introduction to Seth's music notation system. We learn a beginner chant together, Govinda Jaya Jaya, Seth answers questions, and we end with some kirtan. Class also begins with a brief check in with each participant sharing their experience with the harmonium.
