Harmonium for Jewish Music (Online)

Description

Join us for a unique 6-week harmonium course rooted in Jewish music and spirituality . This class will focus on the practical aspects of playing the harmonium in the context of Jewish community and spirituality. We will learn Traditional and Renewal Jewish melodies using an easy-to-read notation system developed by Seth. Class will culminate in a special Chanukah student sharing presentation.

This class is intended for those who already have a harmonium and some basic experience playing, but want to gain more knowledge and confidence in their playing. This class is open for all people -rabbis, cantors, or anyone from any religious background who has an interest in learning more about Jewish spirituality and music.

This class will be assisted by Rabbi Jay Weinstein.

Additionally, 1 private 30 minute coaching session with Seth is included, to be scheduled on your own time during the course.

For complete beginners, please take a private session with Seth in advance of the course. You’ll receive a discount code for this session upon course registration. Please contact Ferdie to receive your code.

The course includes:

  • 12 hours of fun, accessible, interactive group learning

  • 1 private 30 minute coaching sessions with Seth (scheduled separately)

  • Hebrew chants for your personal practice or for sharing with others

  • Easy-to-read notation sheets and audio recordings for the chants we learn (downloadable)

  • Video recordings of each session (downloadable)

  • Home practice assignments and accountability partners from the group

Prerequisites:

  • You have taken at least 1 private session or class with Seth

    OR

  • Basic knowledge of how to play the harmonium

Students must provide their own harmonium.

Class size is limited to allow for more personal attention and a more intimate, group experience. Early registration is recommended to ensure a space.

One 30-minute session scheduled Mon-Fri between 9am-7pm EST based on availability (schedule upon registration during weeks 2,3,4 or 5)

Seth Lieberman

Seth Lieberman is a musician and yoga teacher residing in the Hudson Valley of New York. A lifelong music maker, he studied music composition, theory, clarinet, and piano at the University of Maryland, where he received BA in Music. During his 10 years of time living in Brooklyn, NY, he completed 3 different yoga teacher trainings. Seth has joined his two passions of music and yoga through playing and teaching the harmonium, leading kirtan, and creating original music related to mantra and yoga. He has been actively teaching harmonium both online and in-person for the past 8 years and has helped bring the joy of mantra and music to many students throughout the world.
