COURSE OBJECTIVES
Become more familiar with hearing and singing different intervals - unison through octave
Apply solfeggio to singing intervals and melodies
Be able to identify what key you’re in using the harmonium as an aid
Learn how to transcribe a melody to different keys
COURSE OVERVIEW*
Week 1 - Opening “Circle”, Solfeggio, Intervals Part I
The basics of Solfeggio using major scale, melodies. Intervals: Unison, 2nds, 3rds
Week 2 - Solfeggio, Intervals Part II
Solfeggio and melody. Intervals: 4ths and 5ths.
Week 3 - Identifying Keys, Melody transcription, Intervals Part III
Finding what key you’re in, moving melodies. Intervals: 6ths, 7ths, Octave
Week 4 - Course Integration, Closing
Putting it all together through review and a final practice exercise

Homework Assignments
Using the C major scale (or any major scale of your choosing), practice singing the solfeggio syllables while playing the scale on your harmonium.
Continue to practice singing part 1 of the Sri Krishna Govinda chant with the solfeggio syllables we identified in class.
Solfeggio the Part 2 of Sri Krishna Govinda.
Practice solfeggio using any very simple melody you know well.
Listen to each of the "Interval Identification Exercises" and identify what the interval is for the two notes you are hearing (Unison, Major or Minor 2nd, Major or Minor 3rd).
Optional: In each of the Interval Singing Exercise audio files, listen to Seth play the first note, wait a few seconds (or pause the audio) and try singing the second note before Seth plays it.

Practice the Arpeggio Singing Exercise referenced in the Solfeggio Part II handout.
Sing the Do Based Solfeggio in C major and A minor, both up and down the scale.
Practice playing and singing Shiva Shambo with the Solfeggio syllables
Listen to each of the "Interval Identification Exercises" and identify what the interval is for the two notes you are hearing (Perfect 4th, Augmented 4th/Diminished 5th aka The Tritone, Perfect 5th ).
In each of the Interval Singing Exercise audio files, listen to Seth play the first note, wait a few seconds (or pause the audio) and try singing the second note before Seth plays it.

Find the intervals between the notes in Aad Guray Nameh and write them down
Listen to each of the "Interval Identification Exercises" and identify what the interval is for the two notes you are hearing (Major and minor 6th’s, Major and minor 7th’s, an Octave)
In each of the Interval Singing Exercise audio files, listen to Seth play the first note, wait a few seconds (or pause the audio) and try singing the second note before Seth plays it.
